A routine traffic stop in Hopkinsville turned into a DUI arrest Tuesday afternoon after a Louisville man collided with a deputy’s patrol vehicle.

According to the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, 41-year-old Geovonte Anderson was pulled over on East 9th Street after deputies observed him driving on the wrong side of the road and making an improper pass. He eventually came to a stop in the Travel Inn parking lot.

During the stop, authorities say Anderson reversed his vehicle and struck the deputy’s cruiser, causing minor damage.

Deputies noted several signs of impairment, including slurred speech, the odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle, and open containers of alcohol inside. Anderson reportedly failed field sobriety tests, and a breathalyzer confirmed alcohol consumption.

He was taken into custody and is now facing multiple charges, including driving under the influence (DUI), improper use of the left lane, operating a vehicle without a license, careless driving, and driving without insurance.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
