It’s time to continue our MLB odds series with a prediction and pick for the Angels versus the Astros. Find out how to watch Angels and Astros.

The 2025 Major League Baseball season has already seen some plot twists. One of them lives in the American League West. The Los Angeles Angels have advanced to the top of the division. They’re hitting home runs. They’re getting enough from the back of their bullpen.

Their starting pitching has held up. Yes, it’s reasonable to wonder if the Angels’ roster has the depth required to handle a 162-game schedule. In previous years, the Angels performed well in the first six to eight weeks of the season before faltering and wilting in the summer.

Nonetheless, nobody expected the Angels to get off to a good start. With Mike Trout healthy and playing again, the Angels must hope that their superstar can stay on the field this season. If he succeeds, the ceiling for this team will undoubtedly rise.

The Houston Astros are struggling to score. They are also having some terrible bullpen mishaps, such as on Wednesday in Seattle against the Mariners. Houston led 5-0 going into the bottom of the eighth and let the game slip away.

Astro relievers allowed four runs in the eighth and three in the ninth, resulting in a loss. The Astros rarely blow out games like that. This weekend’s series against the confident Angels is crucial for Houston.

Angels-Astros Projected Starters

Tyler Anderson vs. Ryan Gusto

Tyler Anderson (0-0) performed admirably against Cleveland in his last start. He did not let the Guardians square up his pitches. Anderson did, however, allow four walks — nearly one per inning — which will result in punishment if he continues to flirt with danger in this manner. Anderson’s start requires sharper control and more consistent command.

Last start: April 6 against the Cleveland Guardians — 5 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 HR, 4 BB, 5 K.

Ryan Gusto (0-0) makes his first start of the season. He made four relief appearances during the first two weeks of the season. Houston needs pitching depth. Last season, the Astros were short on starters due to injuries. We’ll see if Gusto is just an opener or if he’s asked to pitch three or four innings this time.

Why The Angels Will Cover The Spread/Win

The pitching matchup, with the Astros sending an unproven Ryan Gusto to the mound, clearly favors the Angels. Given Houston’s struggles with scoring this season (as previously stated), it’s perplexing why the Astros are even favored in this game.

Why The Astros Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Astros’ bats have been smothered for a good portion of the season, but they know Tyler Anderson well and should be able to have a good attack plan against him. Anderson is not overpowering and is therefore someone the Astros should be able to hit hard.

Final Angels-Astros Prediction & Pick

The Angels should be favored here. To increase your chances of cashing a ticket, go with the Angels plus the run and a half. Moneyline is reasonable, but +1.5 is a better bet if you’re comfortable with the listed price.

Final Angels-Astros Prediction and Pick: Angels (+1.5)
