The Los Angeles Angels are off to an incredible start in 2025, sitting atop the AL West with a 9-6 record.
They jumped to No. 9 in Bleacher Report’s MLB power rankings this week, up from No. 14.
According to MLB insider Zachary D. Rymer, there is still a “too good to be true” vibe surrounding the hot start, but the Angels have only lost one series this season.
The Angels are third in MLB with 30 home runs and second in the majors with a combined.501 slugging percentage. The Angels are also scoring efficiently, as they have tied for the fifth-fewest runners left on base this season.
Individually, the Angels are demonstrating why there was so much excitement this offseason, despite 2024 having the lowest winning percentage in franchise history.
Mike Trout has six home runs this season, while Logan O’Hoppe, Kyren Paris, and Taylor Ward are tied for second with five each.
Paris’s surprise to the baseball world is another major reason why Los Angeles has been so lethal this season. He currently leads the MLB in slugging percentage (.842), up from.165 after 36 major league appearances.
Another major reason for the Halos’ success is Mike Trout, who has become synonymous with the franchise over the last decade.
Trout currently leads the league in home runs, and he has already matched his RBI total from 29 games played last season with 14. Keeping the three-time MVP healthy is a top priority for the Halos, which is why he moved to right field — and, despite a small sample size, the move is paying off.
Trout’s last 40-homer season was in 2022, and his last All-Star appearance was in 2023. If he can keep playing like this, and young players like Paris and O’Hoppe continue to shine, the Angels should continue to rise in the MLB power rankings.
