Plenty of famous faces were in attendance at Anfield on Sunday as Liverpool won their 20th English league title, defeating Tottenham in convincing fashion.

Arne Slot became only the fifth manager to win the Premier League in his debut season, and one of only two coaches to do so in the Premier League era, along with Jurgen Klopp.

Club legends Kenny Dalglish, Robbie Fowler, and Steve McManaman were all spotted inside the stadium to celebrate the Reds’ victory, but despite the fact that Sky Sports was broadcasting the game, Jamie Carragher was noticeably absent.

Despite having made the most Premier League appearances for the club, the pundit was not present when Liverpool were crowned champions, despite expectations that he would be the first to celebrate. However, the reason for his absence has been revealed.

Why Carragher Missed Liverpool’s Crowning Moment

According to Carragher’s social media accounts, he missed Liverpool’s victory over Tottenham in order to support his wife, Nicola, at the London Marathon, which was also held on Sunday.

Nicola is aiming to compete in all seven major marathons around the world, and her 47-year-old husband was present in the nation’s capital as she finished the sixth event on her list.

Carragher took to Instagram and gushed about his partner’s achievement, writing:

“Wonder Woman @nicolacarragher finished her marathon challenge of the six @wmmajors in seven months! Very very proud husband, can’t even begin to know how her body must feel today but she’ll get herself in shape for the next one in Sydney in August. Well done my little pocket rocket.”

Nicola had previously run in the Tokyo, New York, Boston, Berlin, and Chicago marathons, with the event in Sydney, Australia, taking place on Sunday, August 31st.

While he wasn’t present at Anfield to celebrate his former club’s victory, Carragher did share his thoughts on the Reds’ performance this season in his Telegraph column.

“In winning the Premier League at his first attempt, Arne Slot has scored one of the most celebrated equalisers in Anfield history; Liverpool can proudly call themselves record title-winners again,” says Carragher.

“True, it is an honour they must temporarily share with Manchester United, the English football giants who are tied at 20-20. However, Slot’s loss of the advantage, which was entirely due to Sir Alex Ferguson’s genius, is extremely symbolic.

“Slot’s instant success puts an end to any debate over England’s most successful club. When you add Liverpool’s six European Cups to the league tally, the last counter-argument they were clinging to at Old Trafford has been obliterated.”
