MLB Burner Account Highlights Uneven Opinions on Slumping Young Players
Since the early days of baseball scouting, evaluations and analysis have occasionally veered into the subjective. Overall, breaking down players based on talent and execution should be straightforward and free of personal statements. However, with the protection of an alleged burner account, talent evaluators can sit behind a screen and vent their frustrations without fear of reprisal attacks.
MLBExecutiveBurner, an account on X, recently discussed the paths of Baltimore Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday and New York Yankees outfielder Jasson Domínguez.
Hopes Remain High
When the Orioles selected Holliday with the first overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, they immediately saw him as a superstar. Many praised his quick bat, sharp batting eye, and ability to defend multiple positions. Most people in the game saw Holliday as a future key player and potential face of the sport.
Meanwhile, his early return to the majors tells a different story. In his first 28 games this season, Holliday is hitting.273, with four home runs, 11 RBI, and an on-base percentage of.340. In micro terms, those figures for an everyday shortstop in early May do not appear concerning.
However, when you consider that Baltimore chose him first overall, the numbers pale in comparison to expectations. However, MLBExecutiveBurner gives him a pass, writing:
“People forget that Jackson Holliday is 21 years old. If he had gone to college, he would be in his junior year at Oklahoma State. The Orioles’ young players are still developing and learning how to succeed in the major leagues. Furthermore, they have been affected by the injuries. “The window is just opening.”
Overall, an honest opinion, especially given Holliday’s limited major league experience of only 305 plate appearances.
The Other Side of the Coin
Despite 211 plate appearances, Yankees left fielder Domínguez received less grace than Holliday (94 fewer). Domínguez, who signed for a $5.1 million bonus as an international player, was quickly regarded as the top prospect for 2019.
In his first 29 games of 2025, the 22-year-old is hitting.224 with two home runs, 12 RBI, and an on-base percentage of.315. Domínguez was not treated with the same grace by MLBExecutiveBurner, who posted:
“Jason Dominguez was the most overhyped Yankees prospect ever. The Yankees’ media machine led fans to believe he’d be a huge star. I’m on track to have a career like Gary Sanchez. “A useful platoon bat.”
Apparently, 211 plate appearances provided the burner account with a large enough sample size to make the snap decision. If the Yankees wanted to trade Domínguez in the next year or two, many MLB teams would be interested in the player’s power potential.
Overview
At this point, no one knows whether or not Holliday will become a star. If one player says it’s too soon to tell, the same should be true for the other. Considering Domínguez is only nine months older than Holliday, banishing him into the realm of the platoon bat appears premature from a rational standpoint.
MLB is a business, and teams face difficult decisions every day. Extending patience and faith to players in whom you have invested millions remains one of the easier tasks.
