Homeland Security subpoenas California for possible monetary rewards for illegals

On Monday, the Department of Homeland Security issued subpoenas to the California government for records relating to alleged federal fund disbursements to illegal immigrants.

ICE’s HSI office in Los Angeles issued subpoenas this week for the state’s Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI).

The CAPI program is intended to provide monthly cash benefits to aged, blind, and disabled non-citizens who are ineligible for federal Supplemental Security Income. However, the White House claims it also benefits illegal immigrants who cannot access social security benefits.

In a statement, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem criticized California politicians for prioritizing illegal aliens over citizens, including providing them with cash benefits.

The Trump Administration is collaborating to identify abuse and exploitation of public benefits, as well as to ensure that those in this country illegally do not receive federal benefits or other financial incentives to remain illegally.

She continued, “If you are an illegal immigrant, you should leave now. The gravy train is over. While this subpoena only covers Los Angeles County, it is just the beginning.”

HSI’s subpoenas seek records such as the names and dates of birth of CAPI applicants dating back to 2021, as well as copies of applications, the applicants’ immigration status, and other program-related documents.

Fox News Digital requested comment from Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office, which did not respond immediately.

The investigation comes more than a month after a separate study found that California is funneling billions of federal taxpayer dollars to pay for illegal immigrants.

The Economic Policy Innovation Center [EPIC] report identified a link between California’s Medicaid provider taxes and what appears to be nearly $4 billion in state funding for illegal immigrants’ healthcare and other initiatives.

However, EPIC reports that the federal government is providing the funding through reimbursements to California.

“The state of California, colluding with insurance companies who cover Medicaid beneficiaries, has created one of the most outrageous ones yet, a money laundering scheme that results in California obtaining more than $19 billion in federal money without any state contribution over the period from April 2023 through December 2026,” according to EPIC’s report.

The paper went on to say that these funds were “used to implement major expansions in the Medicaid program to fund illegal immigrants and long-term care (LTC) for the wealthy.”

A spokesperson for California’s Department of Healthcare Services criticized EPIC’s report as “misleading” and recommended a link on their website for accurate information on the topic.
