After being released from the hospital a month after the deadly shooting, the suspected shooter at Florida State University was photographed in a new mugshot with a disfigured face.
Phoenix Ikner, 20, was photographed with a distorted face after multiple surgeries to treat injuries sustained in the April 17 shooting. Ikner, a political science major at Florida State University, is accused of killing two men and injuring six others.
His new mugshot, which contrasts sharply with the initial photos released of him smiling, was taken after he was shot in the jaw by campus police responding to the incident.
Ikner was booked and transferred to the Wakulla County Detention Facility. His first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, as reported by Fox News.
Ikner, the son of a Florida sheriff’s deputy, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and seven counts of attempted murder. He was taken to another facility in the region because he is the stepson of a Leon County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
Authorities said the 20-year-old carried out the deadly attack using his stepmother’s former service weapon. His stepmother, Jessica Ikner, has been an officer for over 18 years and has served as a school resource officer.
“Her service to this community has been exceptional,” Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil said during an April press conference. “Unfortunately, her son had access to one of her weapons, which was one of the weapons discovered at the scene. And we are continuing to investigate how that weapon was used.”
Ikner had a “tumultuous childhood,” having been kidnapped and taken to Norway by his biological mother when he was only 10 years old in 2015.
The victims of the horrific shooting have been identified as Robert Morales, a local football coach and FSU dining services employee, and Tiru Chabba, who was working for a campus vendor at the time.
