I'm pulling out': Nurse fatally pulled her mother's breathing tube in ICU because she wanted her 'to depart in peace', police said

A Florida nurse is in jail after allegedly removing her mother’s intubation tube while she was in an Intensive Care Unit bed at a Miami hospital and later died.

Juansette Sabrina Green, 54, is charged with aggravated manslaughter of an elderly person, according to court records. She is currently being held in Miami-Dade County Jail without bond.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by local NBC affiliate WTVJ, the incident occurred Friday at North Shore Medical Center in Miami. According to the affidavit, Green’s mother was admitted to the hospital on May 5 due to shortness of breath. The mother’s condition deteriorated, and she was transferred to the ICU.

Green reportedly summoned her son and daughter to the hospital on Friday as her mother’s condition worsened. Green and other witnesses were in the room when the defendant allegedly said “I’m pulling out” and removed the patient’s intubation.

An alarm went off, and hospital staff rushed into the room to help the victim, but Green told them to stop, saying she “wanted her mother to go in peace,” according to the affidavit. The mother died shortly afterward.

Green reportedly left the hospital, but officers from the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office apprehended her at home.

According to state records, Green has been a licensed practical nurse since 2005. It’s not clear whether she worked at North Shore or another medical facility. She has no previous disciplinary record.

This weekend, a judge found probable cause to arrest Green and denied her bond. She is still at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. She was appointed a public defender and pleaded not guilty.

Green’s court date is scheduled for Wednesday.
