A big donation is helping fight hunger in Western Washington. Food Lifeline, an organization that provides food to local food banks, has received a brand-new transportation truck worth $250,000. The generous donation came from Republic Services, a company known for its large fleet of vehicles and community work.
Why This Donation Matters
Mark Coleman from Food Lifeline shared how important this gift is. “This truck would have been a very expensive investment for us,” he said. “Thanks to Republic Services and their giving foundation, we now have a truck that will help us reach people who need food the most.”
Republic Services had been volunteering with Food Lifeline for a few years and understood their mission. That connection led to this major support, which will now make a big difference in how food is delivered across smaller, underserved neighborhoods.
Who Will Benefit from the Truck?
The new truck will carry fresh fruits, vegetables, and proteins to areas where food is hard to access. These are places like senior housing or affordable housing communities — many of which are 2 to 3 miles away from the nearest grocery store.
Most people in these areas don’t have a car or any easy way to travel to stores. This truck will bring fresh, healthy food directly to them, helping families, older adults, and low-income communities eat better without worrying about transportation.
A Huge Step in the Fight Against Hunger
Coleman explained, “This truck is going to play a big role. It will help us deliver fresh food to places that need it but can’t reach it. It’s a huge move for us.” The truck is more than just a vehicle — it’s a lifeline for thousands of people living in food deserts, where regular access to healthy food is limited.
With this donation, Food Lifeline can now expand their services, reach more people, and make sure that even the smallest communities are not left out in the fight against hunger.
