FRESNO, Calif. — According to the Fresno Police Department, two men were hospitalized after a violent stabbing near Hammond Avenue and Mariposa Street on May 21. Three suspects are in custody.
Officers responded to the Community Regional Medical Center in Downtown Fresno around 2:10 p.m., where two stabbing victims had arrived for treatment.
Victim #1 was in stable condition, while Victim #2 underwent emergency life-saving surgery and is now listed as critical but stable, according to police.
According to investigators, the violence occurred during a planned marijuana transaction between people who knew each other.
At some point during the meeting, a suspect named Julian Carrillo allegedly stabbed one of the victims, causing him to collapse. Rosa Romero, Carrillo’s mother and another suspect, reportedly held the victim’s arms down while her son continued the brutal attack.
As the first victim lay helpless, a third suspect, identified as Aaron Robles, allegedly stole his car keys and cellphone.
Carrillo then allegedly stabbed the second victim, who was still in the car, in the chest, according to police.
Despite their injuries, Victim #1 was able to retrieve the car keys and drove himself, the second victim, and a witness to the hospital for treatment.
The crime scene was discovered in an apartment near Hammond and Mariposa, where detectives executed a search warrant. Officers discovered blood splatter, a knife with suspected blood stains, and other evidence inside the home, according to police.
They also noticed strong cleaning supply odors and fans drying the kitchen and living room floors, indicating an attempt to clean up the scene, police said.
The three suspects were arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail on multiple charges.
