Salmonella Outbreak Sparks Recall of Bedner Growers Cucumbers in Florida

Bedner Growers, Inc., a Florida-based farm, has issued a recall for cucumbers sold at its Bedner’s Farm Fresh Markets due to a possible salmonella contamination. Nearly 30 people have fallen ill, with 9 hospitalized, linked to the recalled cucumbers.

Efforts to reach Bedner Growers for comment on Tuesday were unsuccessful.

Why This Recall Matters

In 2025, multiple food recalls have been triggered due to contamination risks, damaged products, or undeclared allergens. Foodborne illnesses like salmonella pose serious risks, especially to young children, elderly people, and those with weak immune systems.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lists salmonella symptoms as nausea, fever, stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. Severe cases can be fatal.

What You Need to Know About the Recall

The FDA announced on Tuesday that cucumbers sold between April 29 and May 14, 2025, at Bedner’s Farm Fresh Markets in Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, and West Palm Beach, Florida, are being recalled.

These cucumbers were also sold to a wholesale distributor. Since the cucumbers don’t have stickers or labels, customers should discard any cucumbers purchased at these stores.

The recall does not include cucumbers sold elsewhere or any other farm products.

Salmonella Outbreak and Investigation

So far, 26 people have been reported sick, with 9 hospitalized. The illnesses are linked to cucumbers from Bedner Growers.

The FDA explained that during a follow-up inspection in April 2025, they found salmonella in environmental samples at Bedner Growers’ farm. The bacteria matched samples from sick patients through advanced genetic testing.

This investigation follows previous outbreaks in 2024 involving Bedner Growers cucumbers contaminated with Salmonella Africana and Salmonella Braenderup.

What Customers Should Do

If you purchased cucumbers from Bedner’s Farm Fresh Markets during the affected dates, do not eat them. Throw them away or return them to the store.
