Texas — A Texas woman is in jail after allegedly shooting her boyfriend dead as he returned to their apartment to retrieve his belongings.

Derricka Ross, 24, was arrested on Sunday after police arrived at the Derby at Steeplechase apartment complex in Houston, Texas.

Major Earl Dean of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office stated on YouTube that officers responded to multiple calls about a disturbance at the complex on Sunday night at 9:14 p.m. Several more calls were received later about shots fired in the same apartment.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered Javion Williams, 22, dead from a gunshot wound.

According to Dean, Williams was discovered near a stairwell outside the apartment building. He also stated that a female suspect had been detained and a weapon had been discovered.

Dean stated that the investigation was “very active” and that officers were speaking with several people who “may have witnessed the entire incident.”

In a post on X, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified Ross as the suspect, later stating that she and Williams “were reportedly in a dating relationship.” Williams had reportedly “returned to the apartment to get his belongings” when Ross allegedly shot him.

Dean stated in his update that there were no other suspects in Williams’ shooting.

Ross was arrested on Sunday and booked into the Harris County Jail, where she is being held on a $150,000 bond. She is set to appear in court on Wednesday.
