The hit Sex and the City spinoff And Just Like That returned with its third season on May 29, bringing fresh faces and new storylines to the screen.
Carrie and Aidan’s Relationship Update
In the premiere, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) shares an update about her romance with Aidan (John Corbett). The couple, who reunited last season, decided to put their relationship on hold for five years. Aidan is focusing on raising his sons in Virginia, while Carrie is busy settling into her new Gramercy Park home.
Carrie tells Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), “I’m a big girl in a big city with a big house to furnish. I’ve got plenty to do up here while he figures stuff out down there.”
Miranda’s New Chapter and Surprise Romance
Miranda, newly divorced from Steve (David Eigenberg) and after a fling with Che (Sara Ramirez), meets a woman named Mary (played by Rosie O’Donnell) at a gay bar. The two hit it off and spend the night together at Mary’s hotel.
Mary surprises Miranda by revealing she is a nun and that their night was her first time ever. This leads to humorous and heartfelt moments, including Carrie joking that Miranda “deflowered the Virgin Mary.”
The Follow-Up
Despite feeling unsure, Miranda decides to meet Mary again after receiving her texts. Their encounter in Times Square is sweet and sincere, with Mary expressing that her faith remains strong and that meeting Miranda helped her discover a new part of herself.
Their conversation ends with Mary singing “For Good” from Wicked, highlighting the meaningful connection they shared.
Rosie O’Donnell’s Role and Reflection
Rosie O’Donnell, who makes her series debut as Mary, shared with Us Weekly that filming was a lot of fun. However, she admitted the original Sex and the City didn’t fully speak to her as a lesbian woman.
She said, “It wasn’t like The L Word for me, because I’m a big L, that’s why.” Still, she appreciated the show’s performances and friendships.
The And Just Like That Season 3 premiere blends the old and new with fresh stories and unexpected twists. Miranda’s new romantic journey with Mary, played by Rosie O’Donnell, adds a heartfelt and surprising layer to the series.
