Taylor Swift is celebrating a huge win — getting the rights back to her music — by recreating a special moment with her longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff and her cat, Meredith.
Recreating a Viral Moment
After buying back her music catalog, Swift shared a fun clip with Antonoff on May 30. The video shows them singing their hit song “Getaway Car” from her 2017 album Reputation while Meredith the cat joins the celebration.
Jack Antonoff captioned the video, “Rep forever guilt free listening!”
The Story Behind “Getaway Car”
Swift and Antonoff wrote “Getaway Car” together. The making of the song’s bridge was captured on Swift’s iPhone and shown in her 2020 documentary Miss Americana. That clip became popular on TikTok because it showed a real, magical moment in the studio.
Antonoff told NBC News in 2023 that it was the only time he had a camera rolling while creativity struck in a powerful way. He called the moment “real” and “kinetic energy.”
Swift Buys Back Her Music Catalog
On May 30, Swift announced she purchased the rights to her music from Shamrock Capital. The catalog had been sold to Scooter Braun in 2019, who then sold it to Shamrock.
Swift wrote in a letter that she almost lost hope after 20 years of trying to own her music but now proudly owns all the songs she’s ever made.
What This Means for Taylor and Fans
Owning her music means Swift now controls her songs, music videos, concert films, album photos, unreleased tracks, and all the memories tied to them — “with no strings attached.”
She thanked her fans for supporting her rerecorded albums, called “Taylor’s Version,” which helped her regain ownership. So far, she has rerecorded Fearless, Speak Now, Red, and 1989. Her Reputation and debut albums are still waiting to be rerecorded.
Taylor Swift’s journey to reclaim her art is a powerful story about perseverance and the importance of owning one’s creative work — and now she can finally enjoy Reputation guilt free with Jack and Meredith.
