Nannie Mary Mimms, a beloved resident of Hopkinsville, passed peacefully into eternal rest on March 28, 2025, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center. Just days shy of her 89th birthday, Nannie Mae, as she was affectionately known, was 88 years, 11 months, and 28 days old.
Born on April 7, 1937, to the late Frank Howard and Mollie Mimms, she was a lifelong member of the Hopkinsville and Christian County community. A devoted member of Pleasant Green CME Church, Nannie Mae faithfully served in various leadership roles within the Second Episcopal District of the Kentucky Annual Conference.
Her service to the church included her roles as a stewardess and President of the Evansville-Hopkinsville District. She also served an impressive eight-year tenure as President of the Annual Conference Stewardess Board, leaving behind a legacy of faith and commitment.
Nannie Mae graduated from Attucks High School in 1955 and went on to dedicate many years to public service. She worked as a dispatcher for the Christian County Sheriff’s Department, serving under four administrations before retiring. Even in retirement, her heart for service continued as she opened her home as a foster parent and caregiver.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son George Franklin West, daughter Amelia D. West Rodgers, husband Frank West Jr., and sisters Pearline Williams and Hattie Jane Waddell.
She leaves behind a loving family, including one son, Anthony West; daughters Althea Francine West, Alicia (Darrion) Colbert, Anna (Rudolph) Weatherstrand, and Kim (Rev. C.E.) Timberlake; a sister, Katherine Dixon; eleven grandchildren—Kristie, Earl Jr., Jessica, Darnell, Angela, Anthony, Jamar, Darrion Jr., Francheskia, Felicia, and Brandy; and eight great-grandchildren—Mia, Jianna, Franklin, Camelia, Ezekiel, Zaria, Jayla, and Kyare. Her legacy also lives on through numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and cherished friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Freeman Chapel CME Church, with visitation beginning at 11:00 AM.
