Clarksville Flooding Forces Evacuation of Dozens of Families as Rainfall Breaks Records

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Floodwaters have once again surged through Clarksville, displacing families and prompting urgent evacuations as the region grapples with relentless rainfall and rising river levels.

Over the weekend, torrential rains inundated neighborhoods, including the Woodstock Estates Subdivision, which remains submerged days after the storms. The flooding follows another significant weather event just weeks ago, leaving many residents frustrated and displaced once more.

“This is the second time in just over a month,” said Michael Thorpe, a local resident. “A lot of our neighbors had to leave again. It’s exhausting and heartbreaking.”

Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts confirmed that approximately 40 families have been evacuated as emergency crews continue to monitor the situation. Officials in Montgomery County are warning that conditions may deteriorate further, with waterways like the Red River expected to crest overnight.

According to the National Weather Service, Clarksville has been drenched with more than 10 inches of rain since Wednesday — including 4 inches that fell between Saturday and Sunday alone.

As a result, the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System announced that an estimated 4,500 residents may find themselves unable to access their homes or neighborhoods once water levels peak.

In response to the emergency, shelters have been opened to assist affected families. The American Red Cross is operating out of the Crow Recreation Center at 211 Richview Road, while local nonprofit Yaipak Outreach has opened its warehouse at 1255 Paradise Hill Road to serve as an additional shelter and donation hub. The organization is also helping with sandbagging efforts and accepting essential supplies for those impacted.

With more rain possible, local authorities are urging residents to stay alert and avoid flooded areas.
