For many Social Security Disability beneficiaries in the United States, receiving their monthly disability retirement check is a critical source of income. However, the Social Security Administration (SSA) follows a payment schedule that varies based on the group a beneficiary belongs to. In April 2025, some beneficiaries will receive their checks earlier in the month, while others will have to wait until the very last payment of the month.
When Will You Receive Your Disability Payment?
The SSA sends out disability payments on specific dates throughout the month, divided into different groups. While some groups will receive their check early, others must wait until the fourth Wednesday of the month.
- Group 4: If you belong to this group, your disability payment will be sent out on the fourth Wednesday of April, which falls on April 23, 2025. This group is for individuals whose birthday falls between the 21st and 31st of any given month, and who started receiving benefits after May 1997.
- Groups 1, 2, and 3: Beneficiaries in these groups will receive their payments earlier in the month on other designated Wednesdays, such as April 3, April 9, or April 16. However, keep in mind that you will only receive one payment each month, so if you receive your check on April 3rd, you will not get another payment on April 9th or 16th.
Do You Belong to Group 4?
To receive your disability payment on the fourth Wednesday of April, you must meet two conditions:
- You must have been receiving your disability benefits after May 1997.
- Your birthday must fall between the 21st and 31st of any month.
If both conditions apply, you will receive your payment on April 23, 2025. If you do not meet these conditions, you will receive your payment on one of the earlier payment days in the month.
It’s important to note that Direct Deposit is the fastest way to receive your payment. If you do not have Direct Deposit set up, you will have to wait a few additional days for your check to appear in your bank account.
What Happens After April 23?
Once the fourth Wednesday payment is made, there will be no more Social Security Disability payments for April. The next round of payments will take place in May.
Additionally, those eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will receive their next payment on May 1, 2025. SSI payments are typically issued on the first day of the month, although some exceptions apply. SSI is available to individuals with disabilities or Americans over the age of 65. The maximum SSI payment is $967, though the actual amount depends on your monthly income.
If you are receiving Social Security Disability benefits and belong to group 4, you will receive your payment on April 23, 2025. Be sure to check your group and ensure you understand when your payment will be issued.
