Liverpool will continue their pursuit of the title on Sunday, as the race for European places heats up below them. The news that the Premier League’s fifth-placed team will qualify for the Champions League is only likely to fuel the battle.
The relegation race may be over for the promoted trio after Ipswich Town’s defeat last weekend moved Wolverhampton Wanderers 12 points clear of the drop zone, but the bottom-dwellers still have something to play for.

Manchester City, who had the rare luxury of not being involved in the Champions League quarter-finals in midweek, start the weekend well rested. The Cityzens are still attempting to qualify for next year’s competition, which is far from guaranteed, and will look to boost their chances with a win over the in-form Crystal Palace.
Brighton & Hove Albion haven’t been themselves since the international break, but they still have a slim chance of finishing in the top five. Anything less than a victory over relegated Leicester City could be disastrous for their European hopes. The Foxes have lost their last eight Premier League matches, without scoring in any of them.
Aston Villa are another team vying for a Champions League spot, and they have an even easier task in beating bottom-of-the-table Southampton. The Saints were relegated in record time after losing to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend and should be no match for the Villans, even though Unai Emery’s side is focused on their Champions League quarter-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain.
Nottingham Forest is one of the teams in a stronger position to compete for a Champions League spot. While their defeat to Villa last weekend set them back, they remain third in the standings and will be looking to win again when they host recent draw specialists Everton.
Arsenal, too, has their sights set on Europe in midweek, but they must first deal with a visit from Brentford. The Gunners can close the gap on league leaders Liverpool to eight points before the Reds play on Sunday, but they’re extremely unlikely to dethrone Arne Slot’s side in the final weeks of the season regardless.

Sunday 13 April

Liverpool will look to respond to Arsenal’s result less than 24 hours later when they host West Ham United at Anfield. The Irons, who have conceded ten goals in two meetings with the Reds this season, will be looking to cause an upset, but Liverpool, boosted by Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk contract updates, should win relatively comfortably.
Following their trip to Poland on Thursday, Chelsea will look to boost their Champions League qualification chances at home against Ipswich. The Blues have produced uninspiring results in recent weeks and could benefit from a comfortable win over the Championship-bound Tractor Boys at Stamford Bridge.
Tottenham were also in action on Thursday night and will have a quick turnaround when they face Wolves at Molineux on Sunday. Spurs have been extremely unpredictable this season, and it would not be surprising if they struggled against the in-form Old Gold, who have won their last three Premier League matches.
It seems like a long time since Manchester United visited St James’ Park as favourites, and the struggling Red Devils will be underdogs again this weekend. Newcastle United, who are still on a high after winning the Carabao Cup, are expected to heap more misery on Ruben Amorim and his players on Tyneside.
