Texas – In a disturbing case in Texas, a 38-year-old Oklahoma woman named L. Breuer has admitted to viciously killing her ex-boyfriend with the help of her 34-year-old sister, J. Cometsevah, bringing an end to a case that shocked both Texas and Oklahoma authorities with its sheer violence.

Breuer pleaded guilty to murder on Monday for the fatal stabbing of her 44-year-old estranged boyfriend, D. Peeler, who was discovered dead in April 2023 at a Texas apartment complex.

Breuer agreed to a 35-year prison sentence as part of a plea agreement accepted by the judge shortly before her trial began. Her sister, Cometsevah, is still facing murder and tampering with evidence charges stemming from the same attack.

While prosecutors stated that Cometsevah has a pending deal, no details or court date have been made public. Prosecutors say the sisters planned to kill Peeler.

Breuer stabbed Peeler more than 50 times, leaving the knife lodged in his neck — a heinous act that her sister allegedly helped conceal by removing and discarding the murder weapon and other incriminating evidence.

Peeler’s body was discovered inside the apartment complex, lying on a deflated air mattress with stab wounds to the torso and neck.

Breuer’s arrest affidavit revealed disturbing details: according to a jail informant, Breuer confessed to police that her sister Cometsevah assisted in removing the knife from Peeler’s neck, as well as his phone and several blood-soaked items, and throwing them into a dumpster.

“The facts of this case were brutal,” Breuer’s defense attorney, B. Cantrel, stated. “He was stabbed 52 times.” My heart breaks for this family. I feel like my client stood up and accepted responsibility, and I’m glad the case is over.”

This was not the first time Breuer had allegedly assaulted Peeler. Prosecutors cited an October 2022 incident in which she allegedly attacked Peeler with a car key. No charges were filed in that case, but it revealed a troubled and volatile relationship between the two.

The District Attorney’s Office emphasized that the investigation encountered several challenges early on, but strong departmental collaboration and follow-up interviews aided in Breuer’s confession and conviction.

“Initially, this case presented several challenges,” prosecutors R. Strother and D. Widmann stated. “Our excellent investigation resulted in Ms. Breuer pleading guilty.” With this final conviction, we obtained a lengthy prison sentence, a waiver of appeal, and provided Mr. Peeler’s family with some closure without the complications of a trial.”

Peeler’s family described the unimaginable pain they have endured since his death in emotional victim impact statements read in court on Monday.

One of his sisters discussed her brother’s final moments. “I wonder how alone, betrayed and scared he must have felt that day,” she told me. “I’m curious how many of the 52 stabs he felt…” There are no words to describe seeing your brother’s casket.”

While Breuer will now serve three and a half decades in prison, her sister’s legal situation is uncertain. Peeler’s loved ones may feel that justice is incomplete, but Monday’s court appearance was an important step toward healing after a devastating loss.
