A campus-area pizzeria that has served students for 40 years is opening a new location on the city’s east side.

Ohio State Pizza’s second location will be at 819 Nelson Rd., taking over the former Wendy’s space, which closed last year.

It is unclear when the eatery will open, but an Ohio State Pizza representative says it could open as soon as next month.

Ohio State Pizza’s original location is at 325 E. Hudson St., in the SoHud neighborhood near Ohio State.

The self-described “no frills pizza joint” has operated on campus since 1985, and the new East Side location will be the eatery’s first expansion.

The restaurant specializes in thin and crispy Columbus-style pizza, as well as wings, subs, salads, and other dishes.
