HPD believes the suspect shot the man who was loitering at the NE Houston motel in self-defense

An investigation is underway following a fatal shooting at a motel near the East Freeway on Saturday.

The Houston Police Department reported that a man in his twenties who was loitering was shot and killed at the Red Roof Inn near Centerwood.

Witnesses told HPD that around 1:30 a.m., an argument broke out, followed by gunfire.

Police said a man in his 50s or 60s was detained for questioning and is claiming self-defense.

Authorities initially told Eyewitness News that they expected the case to go to a grand jury, but they are now waiting to see what charges will be filed while they continue to investigate.
