In America, 27 states have the death penalty. The issue of capital punishment is extremely divisive, as people are arguing about state-sanctioned murder.
According to The Death Penalty Project, there is “lack of empirical research” supporting the effectiveness of the death penalty as a crime deterrent.
One aspect of capital punishment that divides people is the prisoner’s last meal, which some view as a reward. Each state has its own set of guidelines for the final meal.
Glen Rogers was executed in Florida, where prisons are limited to spending up to $40 per execution. Rogers, known as the Casanova Killer, was executed in May 2025. Let’s look at some of his last moments.
Glen Rogers’s last meal was nothing fancy
According to the Tampa Bay Times, Rogers requested a final meal of pizza, chocolate cake, and soda. He was also visited by his wife and brother, Claude Rogers, who sat with him the day before his execution. “I said my goodbyes to him,” Claude told the publication. “He is my brother, and I love him.
I asked God to guide him on his next journey.” Unlike previous meetings, Claude and Rogers were not permitted to be in the same room, but rather separated by a glass barrier.
The convicted killer was reportedly “compliant” as he was strapped into a gurney before being given a lethal injection of a sedative, Rocuronium bromide, and Potassium acetate. Around 6 p.m. on May 15, a window curtain parted, revealing 30 witnesses who saw Rogers half-covered by a sheet.
According to NBC News, his final words were, “President Trump, continue making America great.” I am ready to go.” He was unconscious by 6:06 p.m., and at 6:16 p.m., a medical professional declared him dead.
Glen Rogers once claimed that he killed 70 people
Although Rogers previously told police that he was responsible for the deaths of 70 people, he later recanted and claimed he was not a murderer.
Despite claiming innocence, Rogers was executed for the 1995 murder of Tina Marie Cribbs, a 34-year-old mother of two. He was also sentenced to death in a separate trial in California, where he was convicted of strangling Sandra Gallagher, a mother of three, in 1995.
It is unclear whether the victims’ families were present to witness Rogers’ death. In May 2016, Fox 13 spoke with Cribbs’ mother about Rogers’ execution. “God is on my side,” she stated. “I hope he will remain on my side until I do see this done.”
