A man in Montgomery County was shot and robbed; a Philadelphia suspect is accused of murder

PHILADELPHIA  A man was shot and killed in broad daylight on Saturday afternoon in Lower Providence Township, Montgomery County. Authorities reported that the suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident and charged with murder and robbery.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office reported that the shooting occurred shortly before 5 p.m. near the intersection of Ridge Pike and Crosskeys Road, near the Collegeville Italian Bakery.

The victim, Lower Providence resident Paul David Ley-Harris, 47, was shot several times. A 911 caller who witnessed the incident told police that they saw the shooter fire four shots before going through the victim’s pants pockets while he was on the ground.

Ley-Harris was taken to Einstein Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy determined that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds, and the case was ruled homicide.

A nearby resident told reporters, “You want to be prepared, alert, and situationally aware. Anything can happen at any time and anywhere. And I believe what happened today demonstrated that to us. You might think that this is the area where such incidents are less likely to occur, but as I previously stated, anything can happen at any time.

Jordan Antrim, 32, of Philadelphia, was apprehended only a few blocks away from the scene. He was taken into custody without incident. Officers discovered a Glock handgun in Antrim’s pant waistband. Although the gun was registered to him, authorities stated that he did not have a permit to carry it.

Investigators later discovered that both men had been riding a SEPTA bus prior to the shooting. Surveillance video showed the two sitting across from each other, with Ley-Harris going through his wallet in full view of Antrim. When police discovered Ley-Harris following the shooting, his wallet was missing.

Antrim was charged with first, second, and third-degree murder, robbery, carrying a firearm without a license, and possession of a weapon of crime. He was denied bail and sent to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

The preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 29.
