A Washington restaurant owner was forced to close his doors due to a crime rise that made insurance prohibitive

After a series of break-ins, a popular Italian restaurant in Washington State closed permanently. The owner blamed Democratic leadership and a lack of support for small businesses.

Nirav Sheth, the former owner of Bistro Baffi, appeared on “Fox & Friends First” Monday morning to explain what was the final straw.

“It was difficult to get insurance, and I was under pressure. The landlord [was] stating that if I do not have business insurance, I will be in default on my lease. Unfortunately, I had to either quit, declare bankruptcy, or leave.

The business struggled to stay afloat due to high crime rates and frequent break-ins.

Sheth noted that a nearby Subway was robbed at gunpoint, one of several incidents that highlighted the area’s deteriorating safety, and that, despite police temporarily increasing patrols, the response from Democratic leadership was “nothing.”

Meanwhile, his own restaurant remains in debt, and he has tried unsuccessfully to seek assistance.

“The restaurant is not doing well…” When you have nearly $11,000 in expenses per week and only $3,500 in earnings, it’s the end. I had to call it quits.

The Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs reports that crime has increased in the Evergreen State in recent years.

From 2020 to 2023, violent offenses increased by 18.5%, murders by 22.5%, and robberies by 23.4%.
