MILTON — Milton defeated Sun Prairie East, the No. 5 ranked team in Division 1, 3-2 on Friday, with freshman Red Hawk Ben Schultz going 2-for-3 at the plate and driving in two RBIs.
Schultz singled to right field, driving in two runs and tying the game at two in the fourth inning.
One inning later, Easton Agnew scored on Jack Spielmann’s single.
“Just another gritty performance by our guys,” Milton coach Kris Agnew explained. “We’ve been in a lot of close games with some good teams, but tonight they did a good of not letting it get away from them.”
Nathan Birkhimer got the start. The Milton pitcher allowed two earned runs on three hits in 4 2/3 innings, striking out four and walking four.
“There was a point where Birkhimer was in serious trouble right away, but he did an excellent job of regaining control and keeping it close. Agnew commented, “I thought hit pitched really well tonight.”
Schultz pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, allowing one hit and no runs.
“He delivered an outstanding performance today,” Agnew said.
Friday was also Milton’s senior night.
“Really appreciative of the six seniors we have,” Mr. Agnew said.
Milton (17-7, 10-3) will play a road game against Watertown at Washington Park on Saturday at 1 p.m. If Milton wins, it will be the only winner of the Badger Large Conference.
