Knockroe Inc. has issued a nationwide recall of its “Bonya” brand yogurt parfaits due to the possible presence of undeclared almonds in the granola topping.
Why This Recall Matters
In 2025, many food recalls have occurred due to risks like damaged products, contamination, and undeclared allergens. Food allergies affect millions of Americans, and the FDA lists almonds as one of the nine major allergens along with eggs, milk, fish, wheat, soybeans, shellfish, sesame, tree nuts, and peanuts.
Consuming almonds when allergic can cause reactions ranging from mild symptoms such as swollen lips and hives to severe, life-threatening anaphylaxis.
What You Need to Know
The 12-ounce Bonya yogurts were distributed nationwide and carry an expiration date of May 5, 2025. The issue arose because the packaging did not declare the presence of almonds in the granola topping.
The recall follows a company investigation revealing a temporary breakdown in production and packaging processes, leading to the labeling error.
The FDA has posted photos of the affected product in its alert. No illnesses have been reported to date.
What Experts Are Saying
The FDA reminds consumers to always read labels carefully and avoid foods containing allergens. The law requires food labels to identify the exact source of major allergens, such as specifying the type of tree nut (like almonds) or species of fish or shellfish.
What Should You Do?
If you purchased the recalled yogurt, do not consume it. Return it to the original place of purchase for a full refund.
