    Tigers Battle It Out: Fern Creek Claims Late Win Over Hopkinsville

    On Wednesday, the Fern Creek Tigers emerged victorious over the Hopkinsville Tigers with a final score of 3-2. While the Hoptown Tigers put up a valiant effort and kept the game close until the end, Fern Creek was able to secure their victory with a late surge.

    Hoptown got off to a strong start in the first inning, scoring one run when Gavin Powell hit into a fielder’s choice. However, Fern Creek‘a pitcher, Knoop, settled in and held the Hopkinsville offense in check for the remainder of the game.

    In the top of the fifth inning, with Fern Creek trailing 2-1, Ja Zurkuhlen hit a home run on a 0-1 count, bringing in two runs and giving his team the lead. Both teams had strong pitching performances, with Fern Creek Tigers’ pitchers striking out nine batters and Hopkinsvile’s pitching staff sitting down 11.

    Knoop ultimately earned the victory, pitching six innings and allowing two runs on six hits while striking out nine batters. B Asher also contributed by throwing one inning in relief. Zach Moss started on the mound for Hopkinsville, pitching three and a third innings and surrendering zero runs on zero hits while striking out five batters and walking none. Thomas Hallmark pitched three and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen.

    Despite the loss, the Hopkinsville Tigers had several players contribute offensively, including Moss, JJ Thompson, Chris Medina, Chase Fort, Lucas Kaetzel, and Powell.

    The Tigers take on the Nelson County Cardinals tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 PM as they look to turn things around in Florida.
