KENTUCKY – According to the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office, a man died after causing a major accident on Interstate 69 while fleeing the scene of another incident.
According to reports, William Holmes left his home at a high speed around 12:30 p.m. and crashed into a neighbor’s yard on the 200 block of West Lake Loop.
According to officials, Holmes then hit his neighbor, Shannon King, who was raking leaves in her front yard, before driving into the back yard of another neighbor’s property.
They claim Holmes then attempted to run over another neighbor, Russell Brother, and his young child, but they were able to escape in time.
The extent of King’s injuries is unknown at this time, but she was transported to another medical facility via helicopter.
According to the release, Holmes fled the scene and went to Madisonville, where he was involved in another collision.
This was the accident that shut down southbound I-69, trapping many drivers for hours behind the scene.
Holmes is said to have died in the collision.
The Kentucky State Police and Hopkins County Sheriff continue to investigate.
