An Oak Grove man was arrested on multiple warrants after attempting to avoid being stopped by law enforcement on Fort Campbell Boulevard Saturday afternoon.

According to Oak Grove Police, a motorcycle driven by 40-year-old Donald Merritt in front of them turned onto Gate 7 Road before approaching them on Fort Campbell Boulevard.

Merritt reportedly drove into the Sonic parking lot, parked, and then moved to the opposite side when law enforcement arrived.

Police say that as they approached the motorcycle and discovered that the tag had expired in May 2022, they were told Merritt was inside the restaurant, hanging out. When police entered the business, Merritt began making his way to the back door but was stopped by officers.

Merritt was arrested and charged with failure to register the transfer of a motor vehicle, no registration receipt, failure to maintain required insurance, and no motorcycle license. He was also found to have seven warrants for failure to appear.

While in jail, he reportedly attempted to dispose of a bag of suspected marijuana by dropping it on the floor, and a digital scale was discovered in his possession.

Merritt was then charged with second-degree promoting contraband, tampering with physical evidence, and possessing drug paraphernalia.
