This year, seven nonprofits in Christian County benefited from the Hopkinsville-Christian County Youth Leadership Program, but only one received funding. The Youth Leadership Class was divided into seven groups, and each group volunteered at least one hour per month to Special Olympics, Men2Be, Aaron McNeil House, Joy Closet, Boys and Girls Club, Sanctuary Inc., and Challenge House.
Kim Batts, Program Co-Coordinator, says the winner of the $1,000 from the Al Wettstein, Jr. Endowment Fund was chosen after each group gave their presentation.
The Joy Closet volunteers included Lexi Lyon, Andrew Fincham, Maleigha Henderson, Ryan Martin, Addison Robertson, and Kate Adams.
Christian County High School Senior Avery Adcock and Hopkinsville High School Senior Ty Richards Ebbinger were named Spirit of Leadership Award winners.
Taylor Hayes, President of the Christian County Chamber, congratulated the class and encouraged them to think about the future.
Chris Boyett, a Leadership Board member, asked the high school students to share their knowledge.
42 students were honored for successfully completing the 2024-2025 Youth Leadership Program. The Christian County Schools Performing Arts Center hosted graduation ceremonies on Sunday afternoon. The Youth Leadership program began in 1988.
