The Boston Red Sox appear to be in good shape for the future, with three prospects ranked among the top 15 in the MLB’s Top 100 prospects rankings. However, following a blistering start to the 2025 season at Triple-A, some Red Sox fans are calling for top outfield prospect Roman Anthony to be promoted to the major leagues.
Following an impressive Spring Training with the major league club, where Anthony, MLB’s No. 2 prospect, hit for a.300 average and a.440 on-base percentage, the Red Sox decided to postpone Anthony’s MLB debut, sending him to Triple-A Worcester Red Sox.
Since then, Anthony has worked hard to prove to the Red Sox organization that he belongs in the Major Leagues.
Anthony has a.283 batting average and.433 on-base percentage entering Thursday’s doubleheader against the Rochester Red Wings. The power has also been there, with seven of his 15 hits going for extra bases this season.
If Red Sox fans needed any more proof that Anthony is ready for a major league call-up, they got it in the first half of their doubleheader on Thursday.
Anthony got the Red Sox off to a good start by hitting a solo home run off Red Wings starter Andrew Alvarez.
Anthony would add to that in Worcester’s seven-run top of the third inning, hitting a grand slam to extend the lead to 8-0.
Following Anthony’s two-home run day, Red Sox fans took to social media to express their desire for the Red Sox to promote Anthony to the major leagues.
At only 20, some may argue that Anthony’s call-up to the major leagues is premature. However, Anthony has simply continued to produce at all levels throughout his Minor League career.
One factor that could explain Anthony’s lack of an immediate call is that he is currently playing through a nagging shoulder injury, which makes his recent performance even more impressive. However, once Anthony’s injury is healed, the Red Sox will undoubtedly be tempted to give him his first chance in the majors.
