As of April 2025, there are no new federal stimulus checks announced or expected in the United States. The deadline to claim any missed 2021 federal payments, including the Recovery Rebate Credit, ended on April 15, 2025. If you missed it, unfortunately, you can no longer claim those benefits.
But there’s still some hope! A few U.S. states have their own ongoing financial support programs. These vary by location and usually depend on state budgets, inflation issues, or special social programs. While there’s no national plan in place right now, these local benefits can still offer some relief.
Let’s take a look at which states are currently offering stimulus-style payments and what their programs look like in 2025.
Colorado: TABOR Refund Payments
Colorado offers tax refunds through a system known as TABOR (Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights). These refunds are based on how much income you earned and whether you filed your state taxes before April 15, 2025.
Here’s how the payment works:
If your income (Adjusted Gross Income – AGI) is under $55,000, you could receive up to $1,000 if you’re filing alone, or $2,000 for couples. On the other hand, individuals earning over $100,000 would get only $400, while married couples with that income level would receive $800.
These payments are sent out automatically along with tax refunds, either through direct deposit or paper check. If you met the filing deadline, you don’t need to apply separately.
Alaska: Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD)
Alaska continues its popular Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) program, which gives money to residents using earnings from oil profits. This is not considered a stimulus check but rather a part of Alaska’s constitutional policy.
To get this benefit, you must have lived in Alaska for at least one full year and must have submitted the required form before March 31, 2025. While last year’s payout was $1,702, the exact amount for 2025 has not yet been announced. Payments are expected in October 2025.

New York: Rebate Plan Still in Discussion
New York is currently debating whether to give out an inflation rebate of up to $500 per family. Governor Kathy Hochul added this plan to the state’s 2025 budget, but it’s still being negotiated in the legislature.
The New York Senate has suggested limiting the rebate to senior citizens through tax credits. So far, there are no confirmed dates or final amounts. Negotiations may continue until June 2025, so people are advised to wait for official announcements.
California: Sacramento’s Monthly Family Payments
In Sacramento County, California, a special local program called the FFESP is already running. This pilot program gives $725 per month to 200 families who have children under the age of five.
The payments will continue until November 2025. However, the program only supports families from historically marginalized groups and does not include white, Asian, or Hispanic applicants. Local leaders say this is an effort to support those who have faced long-term disadvantages.
Payments for April are already being distributed, but the program’s limited size means only a small number of families benefit.
While there are no new federal stimulus checks this April 2025, several U.S. states are offering their own financial help through tax refunds or special programs. Colorado, Alaska, California, and possibly New York have ongoing or proposed plans.
If you live in one of these states, keep checking official government websites for the latest updates. And remember, don’t fall for scams—always rely on trusted sources for information. These state-led programs can be a helpful financial boost, even if they’re not part of a larger national effort.
