The Hopkinsville Rotary Radio Auction is off to a strong start, raising over $100,000 on the first night of bidding, and organizers hope to keep the momentum going.
With $103,203.76 under their belt for the first night, that reflects 105 items sold on the auction for $9,238, $118,125 raised through the Hour and Goat Clubs, and approximately $2,840.76 from the Diner and Sweet Shop. That’s roughly $3,500 more than last year’s opening night.
The festivities continue Tuesday evening, with the diner opening for dinner at 5 p.m.—but they’ll be open for lunch Tuesday and throughout the week. Furthermore, Rotarian Jim Dulin says you can buy a whole Boston Butt at any time; simply call and they will save one for you.
Auction Chair Landan Stallons says they were pleased to see the auction get off to such a fast start, and they are looking for additional auction item donations.
He says Rotarians distributed two community grants on Monday, one to the Pennyroyal Arts Council and the other to the Hopkinsville Art Guild, both of which provide art programs for local youth.
The Hour Club and Goat Clubs, on the other hand, are the Rotary Auction’s mainstays. The Hour Club accepts donations of $189, which covers one tuition hour at Hopkinsville Community College—and Rotary Scholars receive two years of free HCC tuition. The Goat Club is a long-standing Rotary tradition, and they welcome donations of any size.
You can listen to the auction live on WHOP at 98.7 Lite FM, watch it on the Hopkinsville Rotary Club Facebook page or Spectrum Channel 376, or go to the War Memorial Building in Hopkinsville to watch it while eating.
