Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future, amid reports that he may reject Real Madrid and stay at Liverpool after all.
Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, who were out of contract at the end of the season, both signed new deals with Liverpool earlier this month, but reports suggest Alexander-Arnold has agreed to join Real Madrid.
The right-back scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Leicester, but refused to comment on his future after the game.
“I have said all season that I will not speak about my situation. “I’m not going to go into the details,” he replied. “But days like this are always special. Scoring goals, playing games, winning games, and winning titles are all special moments for me, and I am happy to contribute.”
Despite the fact that it is widely assumed that he is on his way to Madrid, a report earlier this week stated that there has been a “unexpected turn” after Liverpool made “an ambitious renewal offer.”
According to the report, Liverpool is ‘not resigned’ to losing Alexander-Arnold and has made a last-ditch’super offer’ to keep him at the club, which would pay him around £310,000 per week.
However, transfer expert Romano played down the rumours on X, writing: “Trent Alexander-Arnold is still expected to join Real Madrid.” There have been no changes despite the ‘noise’ on social media.
Romano did, however, give Reds fans hope in their attempt to sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth by activating his £50 million release clause, following a report earlier this week claiming the 20-year-old was’seriously considering’ an offer from Chelsea, with the Blues taking ‘a lead in the pursuit’ of the Spain international.
“The reality is that Dean Huijsen has not made a decision yet,” Romeo said. “Huijsen is speaking with all of these clubs.
“He’s talking to Chelsea, for sure. I told you in January that Chelsea wanted Huijsen, but Bournemouth was unable to complete a winter sale. Also, the clause was not effective in January.
“It’s valid in the summer, so Chelsea will be there. Liverpool will be there because their interest is genuine. Liverpool wants Huijsen, but this is nothing new. This is something that started in January and February.
“Don’t forget about Arsenal, as they are also pushing. Mikel Arteta wants one more top defender to round out the package. So Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal are undoubtedly the three clubs.”
Romano added: “It appears difficult for Newcastle. Tottenham were also interested in participating in this race in a concrete way. [But] these behemoths are now pushing a lot.
“Don’t forget about Bayern, because they may look for a defender in the summer transfer window, and Huijsen is a player they admire.
“[But] they believe Premier League clubs can spend far more money, which is why Bayern are currently unsure whether they can make it happen. But they want the player; they’ve spoken with people close to him, but they believe Premier League clubs can pay more.
“That’s why things could get complicated for them, but not for Bayern.
“How about Real Madrid?” Real Madrid would be one of the player’s preferred destinations, but the club has yet to decide whether or not to sign a defender or how much to invest.
“That is why the situation is strongly pointing to a move to the Premier League. Bayern continue to call, but the Premier League remains the most likely destination.”
