Police arrest Hopkinsville guy for stealing from vehicles and escaping

Hopkinsville police arrested 20-year-old Jaquan McPhatter after he allegedly stole from vehicles and was seen walking around with a handgun on Thursday.

Officers were dispatched to Abbey Way following reports of a person attempting to break into vehicles.

Officers responded to the scene and learned that there was a man carrying a shotgun matching the suspect’s description near the Bruce Convention Center.

Police attempted to contact the suspect, later identified as McPhatter, but he fled on foot. McPhatter was apprehended in front of the Hopkinsville Sportsplex and was reportedly carrying a stolen shotgun and handgun.

The handgun was allegedly stolen from a vehicle parked at the Holiday Inn Express.

McPhatter also allegedly stole personal items from a vehicle on Abbey Way. The stolen items were returned to the victim.

McPhatter was charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, theft by unlawful taking, and theft of a firearm, with additional charges still pending.
