The post Orioles’ Jackson Holliday sets new career high with massive blast against Royals appeared first on Clutch Points.
The Baltimore Orioles have not had a good start to the 2025 season. The Orioles were expected to be an AL East powerhouse for years to come, especially with bright young prospects like Jackson Holliday breaking through in the big leagues, but they have begun the season playing sub-.500 baseball, with things getting worse on Sunday with an 11-6 loss to the Kansas City Royals, their 20th loss of the season in 33 games.
At the very least, the Orioles have some bright spots to focus on as they begin the 2025 season. For example, Holliday had his first multi-home run game, going yard against Royals starter Michael Lorenzen in his first two plate appearances of the day to keep the Orioles in contention before the game slipped away in the final few innings.
Holliday was excellent on the day and bears no responsibility for the Orioles’ defeat. He went 3-4 on the day and was the biggest threat in the Orioles’ lineup despite being in sixth place.
The 21-year-old has excellent power production potential for a middle infielder, which has made him the game’s most sought-after prospect in recent years. Holliday is now getting consistent playing time after a rough rookie season, and he’s quickly demonstrating why talent evaluators thought he was so talented.
The key now for the Orioles is to supplement their burgeoning hitting core with some outstanding pitching. They are the MLB’s third-worst team in terms of runs allowed per game, and their roster is currently imbalanced. The good news is that the MLB regular season is long, giving them plenty of time to right the ship.
Jackson Holliday is figuring it out for the Orioles
To put it simply, Jackson Holliday’s 2024 stint on the Orioles’ major league roster did not go as planned. He was striking out in more than one-third of his plate appearances, which appeared to sap his confidence on his way to a 208-plate appearance cameo with a.566 OPS. He was quickly sent down to the minors to get himself together.
But Holliday has been significantly better in the first month or so of 2025. He’s been making better contact and getting on base more frequently, and on Sunday, he demonstrated that his power production is improving just as the Orioles need a boost to re-ignite their season.
