A Louisiana mother was arrested on aggravated assault charges after attempting to run over a group of elementary school students with her car, according to police.
The Shreveport Police Department announced Wednesday that the incident took place near Pine Grove Elementary around 8 p.m. on April 29.
A parent first reported that her children were nearly hit by a woman while walking home from school. According to police, the woman dropped off a group of children with the intent of fighting another group.
As the group fled, the woman attempted to hit six children with her car following a fight between her child and another student, according to police. There was no word on what the students were fighting about.
A school patrol officer quickly reviewed the surveillance footage and identified the suspect as Lejonkica Sharp.
Sharp allegedly told police that the children were throwing rocks at her car and that she had no intention of injuring anyone.
However, a school patrol officer reviewed surveillance footage of the incident and determined that the claim was false.
Two days after the incident, Sharp was arrested on six counts of aggravated assault.
“We’re relieved that no children were seriously injured in this terrifying incident. The Shreveport Police Department wishes to thank the Caddo Parish School Board for their cooperation and support throughout this investigation.
“Their assistance was critical in ensuring a timely and successful resolution,” Shreveport police said.
