A Louisiana man faces murder charges for allegedly beating his stepfather to death and bragging about it in messages to his brother.
Ian Seghers, 34, is charged with first-degree murder for the March death of his stepfather, Walter Rowland, 66, according to WAFB. Police said Seghers, who was apprehended in Mississippi, had a “rocky relationship” with Rowland.
According to the station, despite Seghers’ attempts to conceal the crime, police were able to locate the scene.
Baton Rogue public information officer Lt. L’Jean McKneely told WAFB-9 that despite his efforts to clean the area, technology and equipment revealed the presence of a scene.
According to the station, a K-9 unit assisted in the discovery of remains that were not visible to the naked eye, including large amounts of blood from the victim’s bedroom.
According to WAFB-9, police discovered blood splatter on the ceiling and in a location where the carpet was removed.
According to WLOX-13, Seghers left voice messages on Facebook for his brother, Sean Crawford, that appeared to reference the incident: “I put a hammer in my pants and everything and walked up in that b***h to do it.”
Rowland was reported missing on March 9, and Crawford has not heard from him since then. WLOX-13 reported that he received a phone call from him last Friday.
“In the middle of our conversation, he asks if I can help him get heroin. Crawford told the station, “He’s telling me to hurry up because this is the last time I’ll see him.” “I’m telling him, you don’t sound right, what’s going on?”
Crawford informed police that his brother was staying in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and that communications with him led him to believe he was involved in the disappearance, according to WLOX-13.
