A former NFL player admitted to killing his girlfriend, whose remains were discovered months after her family reported her missing after not hearing from her on Mother’s Day.
Kevin Ware, 44, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the brutal murder of Taylor Pomaski, 29, according to court documents from Harris County, Texas. Pomaski’s remains were discovered months after she was last seen alive in April 2021; officials believe she was beaten, stabbed, strangled, and burned.
In addition to admitting to the murder, Ware pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence for desecration of the victim’s body. According to court documents obtained by Houston-based NBC affiliate KPRC, the victim’s body was burned after her death.
As previously reported by Law&Crime, Taylor Pomaski, 29, was last seen after a party on April 25, 2021. Following her disappearance, investigators stated that Ware was uncooperative in search efforts and quickly became a person of interest. Human remains were discovered in North Harris County in December 2021 and are believed to be those of Pomaski.
The deceased woman’s identity was confirmed through forensic testing in early May 2022. After more than a year of formal speculation, the defendant was indicted for Pomaski’s murder in late July 2022.
Ware had been arrested the month before for allegedly violating bond conditions on weapon and drug charges he received less than a week before his then-girlfriend went missing.
Witnesses later stated that the couple had a violent altercation at the small party where Pomaski was last seen alive.
Ware admitted in court documents to killing her on or around April 28, 2021. Her family reported her missing on May 11, that year, after she failed to contact them on Mother’s Day, which also happened to be her father’s birthday.
“She never missed that type of stuff,” her mother, Leslie Mandeville, told Inside Edition in a June 2021 interview. “Never.”
“Taylor reached out to me many times throughout the month of April,” former boyfriend Eric Zuleger told Houston’s CBA affiliate KHOU. “We were talking about her getting out of there, getting back on her feet, getting herself set and stabilized.”
Ware previously played tight end for the San Francisco 49ers and the Washington, D.C.-area NFL team known as the Washington Commanders. He appeared in 16 games during his brief two-season career.
