A 12-YEAR-OLD boy was shot dead at a playground in Compton, prompting cops to launch a frantic manhunt for the killer, who fled the scene.
On Friday, terrified residents reported hearing around 15 shots before a dark red Chevrolet Camaro or Dodge Charger drove away at high speed.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported gunfire just before 4 p.m. at Fig/Oleander Park, near the intersection of Oris Street and Oleander Avenue.
The boy, who lived nearby, was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in critical condition after first responders administered an on-site blood transfusion.
He was later pronounced dead in the hospital.
According to the Compton Fire Department, the youngster was shot in the stomach.
Authorities have yet to identify the victim or provide a description of the shooter.
No arrests have been made, and no motive has been established.
The park was immediately cordoned off while investigators searched the area.
It’s unclear when it will reopen.
Aerial footage captured patrol cars lining the street and officers searching the playground for clues.
Locals claimed the young victim was frequently seen playing in the park.
