In his third DUI arrest, an impaired Hardin County man strikes and kills a cyclist

A Hardin County man has been jailed after hitting several bicyclists, one of whom died.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office reported that on Monday evening, May 5, deputies responded to a “serious motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle and four bicyclists in the 1000 block of Pembroke Rd.”

When first responders arrived at the scene, they discovered two of the cyclists were unresponsive. Both female victims were taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a Nashville hospital, where one of them, 31-year-old Marlene Martin, died of her injuries.

Rachel Hoover, 34, remains in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the bicyclists, 30-year-old Isaiah J. Edwards of Radcliff, “displayed multiple signs of impairment during roadside sobriety testing,” the Christian County Sheriff’s Office said.

Edwards was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance (aggravating circumstances, and his third arrest).

He was detained at the Christian County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond.

Additional charges are likely to be filed.
