A Hopkinsville man was arrested and charged with drug trafficking after fleeing a traffic stop on Mechanic Street Tuesday afternoon.

Hopkinsville police say they stopped a vehicle for a seat belt violation, and the passenger, Tijuan Jackson, 26, got out and began walking to a house.

He allegedly ignored the officer’s commands to stop and return to the vehicle, but did stop before entering the house.

Police say the odor of marijuana emanated from the vehicle, and after a search, a plastic bag of marijuana was discovered.

Officers reportedly obtained a search warrant for the home where he was attempting to enter and discovered a handgun, 50 grams of marijuana, 2 grams of crack cocaine, a digital scale, and other drug paraphernalia.

Jackson was arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana, cocaine, possessing a firearm by a convicted felon, and third-degree fleeing or evading law enforcement.
