A man is facing multiple charges in Christian County after a deputy allegedly observed a vehicle with a child inside driving recklessly Tuesday evening.
According to the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday, May 13, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle seen swerving into the opposite lane, posing a hazard to other motorists.
Not only was a 10-year-old inside the vehicle at the time of the incident, but authorities said the driver, 32-year-old Deaudrey L. Civils of Hopkinsville, displayed signs of impairment and admitted to drinking alcohol.
Following field sobriety tests, the driver was arrested and transported to the Christian County Jail. According to officials, a breath test revealed that Civils’ blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.
According to law enforcement, Civils was charged with the following crimes:
- Reckless driving
- Operating a vehicle under the influence (aggravated circumstance, first offense)
- First-degree wanton endangerment
The sheriff’s office cited the elevated BAC and the presence of a minor in the vehicle as reasons for the DUI charge being upgraded under Kentucky’s aggravated circumstances statute.
There have been no additional details released regarding this incident.
