A Hopkinsville man has been charged with attempting to kill a police officer

The Christian County Grand Jury indicted a Hopkinsville man on attempted murder and other charges Friday, after he allegedly choked a police officer.

Carlo Jones received a true bill on charges of attempted murder of a police officer, first-degree strangulation, third-degree assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, and menacing.

The charges stem from a March incident in which Hopkinsville Police reported stopping a motorcycle driven by Jones for passing on the shoulder of Fort Campbel Boulevard and Old Clarksville Pike.

During the stop, Jones reportedly argued with Officer Johnny Colon about providing a driver’s license.

According to police, Jones bear-hugged Officer Colon, causing them both to fall over a guardrail. According to police, Jones then began choking the officer to the point where he almost lost consciousness.

Officer Colon was reportedly injured during the incident and was transported to the hospital for treatment.
