During a Peace Officers Memorial Day ceremony, Hopkinsville pays tribute to fallen officers

The City of Hopkinsville held its annual Police Memorial Service on Thursday at the Fraternal Order of Police Memorial Park to honor the lives of law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.

The ceremony, held on National Peace Officers Memorial Day, gathered officers, families, and community members to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Community members, families, and local officials gathered at the Fraternal Order of Police Memorial Park to honor the fallen.

For Mayor Knight, the ceremony is personal. He lost a friend, Officer Phillip Meacham, who died in the line of duty.

According to Michael Velez, President of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 12, the memorial honors the past while also protecting the future.

Police Chief Jason Newby praised Hopkinsville’s community spirit.

And on this day, Hopkinsville is united in sorrow and gratitude.
