CLARKSVILLE, TN — A fire began Monday evening on Porter Hills Drive in Sango, destroying a house.
Montgomery County Fire Service Capt. Kevin Falsetto told Clarksville Now that the fire in the attic of the 3100 block of Porter Hills started around 6 p.m. and was believed to be caused by a lightning strike. The cause is still under investigation.
The fire was under control within an hour, and hot spots were extinguished by around 9 p.m., he said. The two-story house was a total loss.
Falsetto stated that none of the three adults and two children in the family were injured. A cat was missing. At 9:50 a.m., firefighters were still on the scene, assisting the family in salvaging their belongings, and the American Red Cross was also on hand.
Falsetto reported that one firefighter sustained a minor leg injury. The firefighter was treated and returned to work at the scene.
Palmyra, St. Bethlehem, and Cunningham Fire Services assisted East Montgomery County Fire Service units, as did the Rescue Squad, MCEMS, and the Sheriff’s Office.
