A grand jury has returned multiple indictments for assault and wanton endangerment charges

A Christian County grand jury returned multiple indictments Friday, including cases involving shootings and police pursuits.

Soloman Burgess of Hopkinsville received a true bill for one count of first-degree assault.

Burgess is accused of shooting a man on February 9, resulting in serious injuries. The Hopkinsville Police Department investigated the incident.

The grand jury returned separate indictments against Hopkinsville residents Demontae Burse and Jwon Thomas, charging each with four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment for firing a weapon. Burse has also been charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon.

The charges stem from a shooting on February 9 at the Aspen Meadow Apartments, which was investigated by the Hopkinsville police.

Shortly after officers arrived, a gunshot victim with a shoulder wound was reportedly transported to Jennie Stuart Health.

Police said the shooting was related to a couple’s separation. Officers reported that while items were being removed, Thomas and Burse fired one shot into the apartment before continuing to fire shots outside the building.

Cody Dexter of Clarksville faces felony charges of first-degree fleeing or evading police and first-degree wanton endangerment.

The charges stem from an incident on March 30 when Christian County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a motorcycle driven by Dexter for exceeding 96 mph on Fort Campbell Boulevard.

According to police, Dexter fled at speeds of up to 120 mph, and his passenger lost her helmet in the process. The pursuit ended near Westgate Construction, where Dexter was apprehended.

Donavan Ball and Jordyn Purcell, both of Clarksville, Tennessee, were charged with felony fleeing or evading police and first-degree wanton endangerment, as well as misdemeanor possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The charges stem from an April 22 pursuit in which Christian County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to exit with two vehicles parked in a tree line on Barkers Mill Road, but both drivers fled.

Authorities said one vehicle eventually came to a stop on Tiny Town Road near Pembroke, while the other fled into a nearby neighborhood. Deputies reported that the driver of the second vehicle was later identified as Ball, who was arrested on a warrant.
