TriStar Health will build a $286 million hospital in Clarksville, creating more than 200 job opportunities, the health system announced on May 30.

The 213,000-square-foot facility, which will be built on Tiny Town Road and Sandpiper Drive, will offer full-service acute care, according to TriStar.

According to a news release, TriStar, a division of HCA Healthcare, is seeking a state certificate of need to provide a 12-bed emergency room as well as 68 beds for admitted patients, with the capacity to expand to 224.

“Clarksville is growing at a tremendous rate, and we are excited to expand healthcare services with a community hospital designed to meet the needs of the residents who call Clarksville home,” said Mitch Edgeworth, president of HCA Healthcare TriStar Division.

Clarksville is the fifth largest city in the Volunteer State, and it is now nearly the size of Chattanooga. It is projected to have a population of 200,000 by 2028.

However, it only has one acute care hospital for the community and one for the military at the nearby Fort Campbell U.S. Army base, which spans the Tennessee-Kentucky border. Chattanooga has 11 hospitals and a population of more than 191,000 as of 2024, according to the United States Census.

Clarksville’s population explosion, combined with its projected future growth, enticed another healthcare system to invest in Montgomery County.

On May 15, Nashville-based Ascension Saint Thomas announced plans to build a $148 million hospital and outpatient facility just outside Clarksville city limits, creating an estimated 250 health care jobs. Its officials are also applying for a state certificate of need to proceed.

Clarksville has grown by 11.4% since 2020, with an estimated population of nearly 186,000 by 2024, according to U.S. Census figures. This growth rate is more than four times faster than the national average.

TriStar Clarksville will offer labor and delivery as well as a neonatal intensive care unit.

The medical center will also include four operating rooms, a 42-bed surgical unit, and an intensive care unit.

Imaging services, including MRIs, will be available on-site, along with inpatient dialysis and two cardiac catheterization labs.

Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts stated that TriStar’s “investment will result in expanded healthcare options for our citizens and Fort Campbell families.”
