HOPKINSVILLE, KY — On May 21, a man was shot near East Second Street, and the suspect turned herself in to Hopkinsville police.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired just before 10 a.m. on May 21 near East Second and Liberty Streets.
Officers and detectives responded quickly and found the victim, Jaleon Dyess, who had a gunshot wound to the neck, according to Hopkinsville Police spokesperson Officer Royale Marfil.
Dyess was flown to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was interviewed by detectives and identified the shooter as 21-year-old Shadymon Buckner, with whom he had an argument prior to the shooting, Marfil stated.
While officers and detectives were looking for Buckner, she turned herself in to the Police Department.
Detectives executed a search warrant in the 1000 block of Howell Street and discovered the firearm Buckner had discarded following the shooting, according to Marfil. Buckner was charged with first-degree assault.
