According to the Hopkinsville Police Department, a man accused of “bear-hugging” and “strangulating” a police officer is now facing multiple charges, including attempted murder.
On Monday (05/12), a Hopkinsville police officer conducted a traffic stop on a motorcycle after it reportedly passed a vehicle on the right shoulder of Old Clarksville Pike and Fort Campbell Boulevard.
The stop happened near mile marker 7 on the Pennyrile Parkway.
When the officer approached the motorcycle rider, identified as 43-year-old Carlo Jones of Hopkinsville, Jones reportedly became argumentative and stated that he did not have to show his driver’s license.
According to police, the officer attempted to detain Jones, but Jones pulled away before allegedly shoving him.
Jones allegedly charged at the officer and “bear-hugged” him, causing them both to fall over a guardrail and down an embankment near the water.
According to police, Jones mounted the officer and strangled him until he almost passed out.
The officer was injured and transported to a hospital for treatment following the incident.
